Be cool. It’s just a game.

Gamification Experiment

Do individuals learn better, faster or more eagerly when traditional game-play techniques are applied to self-guided learning?

gam·i·fi·ca·tion
/ˌɡāmifəˈkāSHən/
noun
the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service. Source: Oxford Dictionary

Psychological research suggests that — Oh, who cares, let’s just play!

This learning tracking system consists of three primary components: Experience Points (XP), Achievements, and Rank.

Both experience points and achievements can be earned by completing various tasks on and off the site. Typically, experience points are gained gradually over time. Rank is a reflection of a player’s current total experience points. In rare cases, XP can be reduced, which might cause a reduction in rank. Achievements are earned by completing specific tasks. A special badge is awarded for each achievement.

XP: A means of tracking overall game progress.
Achievement badge: An indicator that a player has completed a specific objective.
Rank: A reflection of a player’s accumulated XP.

As you play, please keep in mind that this game is meant to help our team keep track of progress toward goals in individual areas of interest. Many achievement badges and XPs are self-awarded as you track your own progress toward reaching goals you have set for yourself.

The points are all made up and don’t matter, anyway. Remember, none of this is real.

P.S. All of this is real.
